Privacy Policy.
We collect the minimum personal information needed to run the campaign, we keep it only as long as we need it, and we never sell or share it. This page explains exactly what we collect and why. Last updated: July 2026.
Who we are
Ban Ads For Gambling (“BAFG”, “we”) is a not-for-profit corporation incorporated in Ontario, running a national, volunteer-led advocacy campaign. We handle personal information in line with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and follow data-minimization practices standard for Canadian non-profit advocacy organizations: collect little, use it only for the purpose you gave it to us, and delete it when that purpose is served.
What we collect, and why
The “Tell your MP” letter tool. To send a letter you provide your name, email address, and postal code.
- Your postal code is used to look up your Member of Parliament, and it appears at the bottom of your letter so the MP's office knows you are a constituent. It also tells us which riding your letter came from, which is how we measure the campaign's reach across the country. It is used for nothing else.
- Your name signs your letter. Your email is used to deliver the letter and to send you a confirmation (and a copy, if you ask for one).
- We keep the Campaign's copy of your letter โ including your postal code โ so we can track the campaign's reach riding by riding. That copy is held securely, is never shared with anyone, and is deleted or anonymized when it is no longer needed.
Newsletter. If you subscribe to campaign updates, we keep your name and email address for that purpose only. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
Contact form. We keep what you send us for as long as needed to respond and follow up.
Donations. Donations are processed by Fundrazr, our payment processor. We never see or store your payment card details.
What we will never do
- We will never sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with anyone โ not with other organizations, not with data brokers, not with advertisers.
- We do not use marketing or advertising cookies, and we do not track you across other websites.
- We will not add you to any mailing list you didn't ask to join.
Cookies & analytics
We use only essential cookies โ those needed for the website to function โ and privacy-respecting, aggregate analytics that tell us how many people visit and which pages they read. We never use cookies for marketing or advertising, and our analytics are never used to identify you personally.
Third-party services
Three services help us run the campaign, and each receives only what it needs to do its job:
- OpenNorth Represent API โ receives your postal code (only) to identify your MP.
- Fundrazr โ processes donations securely; see Fundrazr's own privacy policy for how it handles payment information.
- Our email delivery provider โ transmits your letter and confirmation email.
How long we keep information
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purpose you gave it to us. Copies of letters are retained while the campaign is active so we can report on its reach; we review our records at least annually and delete or anonymize anything no longer needed. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.
Your rights
You may ask us at any time to show you the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You may withdraw consent (for example, unsubscribe from updates) at any time. If you're not satisfied with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
